Any serious adventurer needs a safe place to store his or her loot acquired from heroic (or dastardly) deeds. In the early part of an adventurer's career, this is easily accomplished with mundane bags, sacks, wagons, and so forth, but once gold is plentiful, many opt for more interesting (and less cumbersome) magical means.
There are a few wondrous items available which provide an extradimensional space suitable for storing treasure and items. Each has its own distinct advantage and widely differing prices. Of these, the Portable Hole is the most expensive, but has the greatest capacity. It has the added advantage of also being the smallest and lightest, making it ideal for a weaker or smaller character's needs. Unlike Bags of Holding and Heward's Handy Haversacks, the Portable Hole does not outwardly resemble a normal bag. Instead, it is a simple circle of cloth, six feet across, which can be folded up to about the size of a handkerchief. If it is unfolded on a surface, it reveals an extradimensional hole ten feet deep and the width of the cloth. Although it is the least accessible in a hurry, the Portable Hole holds far more than a Haversack and can safely store unprotected sharp objects, unlike a Bag of Holding. This makes it the best choice for throwing a bunch of random objects into, for instance when clearing out a dragon's horde. Extradimensional Item Storage Overview: If you need your items within easy reach, opt for the Heward's Handy Haversack. Should you require greater storage but still (slightly less) easy item availability, obtain a Bag of Holding. However, if mass storage is the most important consideration, the Portable Hole is the way to go. |
