PHB II: Affiliations Print E-mail

In the back of the Player's Handbook II you will find affiliations (pg. 163). This is a great idea: you get bonuses for being in, and you gain "affiliation points" for completing/meeting certain criteria. There are really two parts to the affiliation programs: Requirements for entry, and criterion for gaining Affiliation Score points.

A) Pluses or minuses for meeting the stated requirements. For example, I could give you a +2 if you were a Kender, and a -3 if you were a Wizard, because this is a group designed for kenders that are rogues... No wizards allowed type of thing. B) You can set prerequisites to get in. For example, you must have completed a mission by the affiliation, which gives you a +2 to your affiliation score.

There are a lot of affiliations predefined in this book already, which are all pretty cool. If you find that these aren’t enough for you, there are tables on page 184 that will help you make your own affiliation.

Now, these aren’t the best tables Wizards has ever come up with, but if you combined them with what you find in the existing affiliations then I think that we can make some pretty cool stuff.

There are three charts in the back for determining your affiliation. Table 7-1 is the Affiliation Scale. By this it literally means how big is your group? Table 7-2 is the Affiliation Score Criteria, this table helps you define all modifiers of an affiliation. Table 7-3, Affiliation Benefits and Duties, is where you show the benefits of being in your affiliation.

Affiliation Score Criteria: To join, a prospective adventurer must complete a high quest for the affiliation (this instance does not provide +2 affiliation score).

4-8 Personal vault, or +1 luck bonus to saves
9-14 Ability to borrow 30,000gp from affiliation for 2d4 + 1 days, once
per week
15-18 Claim audience with emperor in 1d6 days, once per month
19-23 +4 luck bonus to AC, or a +2 luck bonus to all saves
24-27 Claim audience with rival affiliation head within 1d4 weeks.
28 or higher Personal hagiographer - 10th level bard.
