Races of Faerun is a very in-depth book, when it comes to races. They spend a lot of time going over every race. On each race they take a look at that race in general, their history, outlook, society, languages and literacy, abilities and racial features, magic and lore, deities, relations with other races, equipment, and regions.

I like the way that they define all the races. They really get detailed on how they act as a culture. If you want a better understanding on how your character fits into society, this book will really take you there and back.

Here is a list of all the races you will find in this book.

Dwarves – Arctic dwarf, Gold dwarf, Gray dwarf, Shield dwarf, Urdunnir dwarf, Wild dwarfs

Elves – Aquatic elf, Avariel (winged elf), Drow elf, Moon elf, Sun elf, Wild elf, Wood elf

Gnomes - Deep Gnome, Forest Gnome, Rock Gnome

Half-Elves – Common Half-Elves, Half Aquatic Elves, Half Drow

Half-Orcs and Orcs – Gray Orc, Half-Orc, Mountain Orc, Orog (Deep Orc)

Halflings – Ghostwise Halflings, Lightfoot Halflings, Strong heart Halflings

Human - Calishite human, Chondathan Human, Damaran Human, Illuskan Human, Mulan Humans, Tethyrian Humans, Other Human Ethnic Groups (22 additional groups)

Plane Touched - Aasimar, Air Genasi, Earth Genasi, Fey'ri, Fire Genasi, Tanarukk, Tieflings, Water Genasi

Minor Races - Aarakocra, Centaur, Hobgoblin, Kir-Lanan, Lizardfolk, Lycanthropes, Shade, Wemic, Yuan-Ti

Appendix - Equipment (Weapons, Armor, and Gear), Feats, Magic Items, Potions, Wondrous Items, Monsters, Prestige Classes, Spells

The Appendix is one chapter long, and it is filled to the max with information. They go over all sorts of new weapons and armor that are specific to Faerun. Most of the feats are specific to a region, meaning that you have to be from a certain region in order to take that feat (although a good number can apply to anyone). This chapter also goes over potions and wondrous items, but there aren't that many. This section was a little disappointing. They also have prestige classes that will give some characters directions that they could only have dreamed of. Thirteen new spells are introduced in the last pages of Races of Faerun. One third level spell allows you to detect minerals in the ground for a long period of time, which means any character trying to make some extra cash will have a better chance with this spell.
